Local Ski Shop thriving because of snowy winter on Mt. Ashland

Mt. Ashland is on track to beat another record this year.

MEDFORD, Or--- Snowboards, hats and boots. You can find it all inside the Rogue Ski Shop in Medford.

The co-owner of the shop says it's a good season and a busy season. The biggest reason is because of this year's snow on the mountains and also last years. "Well if the previous season is good people have confidence. They come in expecting to have a good season again." said Bob Matthews. He is the co-owner of Rogue Ski Shop.

"It was a great season last year. There was good snow all around. That gets people excited for the next year and gets people back up on the mountain." said Matt DeSoto. He is a snowboarder.

Hiram Towle from the Mt. Ashland Ski Area says last year almost 100,000 people rode down the slopes. Breaking the record. "We're busy. I think the ski area might hit the record at the end of the year for attendance." said Matthews. He's right. Towle says the mountain is on track to break the record again.

"When you have a good year, you have to save the proceeds from it." said Matthews. He says there are drought years, when both mountains are closed. The Rogue Ski Shop will see sales drop by 30 to 40 percent. "Make it so you can get through the next drought year, because there will be another drought year." said Matthews.
