MEDFORD, Ore. -- The American Red Cross is asking for volunteers to assist with upcoming disaster relief in anticipation of Hurricane Florence. Volunteers trained this week could be deployed to the east coast as early as Saturday. Volunteers can attend a local recruiting event to learn more and even sign up.

Volunteers get to see the impacts of a disaster first hand but they also have a means to help.

"Listening to people tell you their story and being able to help them and provide shelter, or provide supplies, or provide a meal is extremely rewarding," said American Red Cross Disaster Services Volunteer Patty Albin.

Jobs can vary between serving meals, stocking up supplies and providing comfort to evacuees. Volunteers need to be in general good health and able to dedicate time for deployment.

If you're unable to volunteer but want to help, the American Red Cross suggests making a donation. You can donate to disaster relief funds here.

You can attend any of the recruitment options below. No RSVP required.
