KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — Investigators have arrested and charged a man and woman from Klamath Falls for alleged child neglect and criminal mistreatment, according to the Klamath County Sheriff's Office.
The agency said that deputies were working with case workers from the Oregon Department of Human Services, looking into a report of a young child who was "confined and being mistreated."
During the investigation, the deputies learned that 52-year-old Lori Darlene Meeks and 31-year-old Matthew Scott Oakley were not the child's parents, but were "given the child to care for" in 2016.
Deputies arrested Meeks and Oakley on Wednesday, charging them both with Criminal Mistreatment in the First Degree and Child Neglect in the Second Degree.
Both the child at the center of the investigation and another child living at the residence were removed and placed in protective custody after deputies investigated their living conditions, KCSO said.
