MEDFORD, Ore. -- Local public health officials began announcing new confirmed cases of the coronavirus in southern Oregon and northern California as of Monday, June 15. Numbers from each individual county will be updated below as soon as NewsWatch 12 receives their latest figures.

JACKSON:

Jackson County Public Health reported a new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Monday, bringing the county total to 82. At least 62 people are considered recovered from the virus.

Of the most recent cases, 10 have been linked to an outbreak at Harry & David. Seven employees and three close contacts have tested positive for coronavirus, and a contact tracing investigation is ongoing.

"People are staying home less: they are returning to work, are increasing their travels, attending social gatherings, and participating in physical activities," County health officials said. "It is important to understand that the virus has not been eliminated, and there is no vaccine available to prevent people from getting this infection. Therefore, there is still a risk for people to become ill with COVID-19 and pass the illness on to others. Jackson County Public Health expects to see an increase in COVID-19 cases as people resume their daily routines."

KLAMATH:

Klamath County Public Health reported nine new confirmed cases and one presumptive case in the county on Monday, bringing the County total to 61. County officials also reported that at least 40 of those cases had recovered and are no longer active.

"A presumptive case means the individual has had contact with someone who has been confirmed to have the virus and is exhibiting symptoms," officials said. "Presumptive cases are treated as a confirmed case in the interest of providing the greatest community protection. Cases announced as presumptive and later confirmed through testing are not counted twice."

As of June 14, 4,077 Klamath County tests had been processed by laboratories.

JOSEPHINE:

Josephine County Public Health last reported 23 total cases. Of those cases, 22 are considered recovered.

The agency said that it will now provide data weekly on Friday afternoons with an update posted if a new presumptive or confirmed case occurs.

The county marked the first death attributed to the virus in southern Oregon on April 11, an 81-year-old man.
