MEDFORD, Ore. -- Local public health officials began announcing new confirmed cases of the coronavirus in southern Oregon and northern California as of Friday, June 19. Numbers from each individual county will be updated below as soon as NewsWatch 12 receives their latest figures.

JACKSON:

Jackson County Public Health last reported two new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the county total to 85. At least 65 people are considered recovered from the virus.

These latest cases are not linked to a recent outbreak at Harry & David, Jackson County officials said. As of Tuesday, eight employees and three close contacts had tested positive for coronavirus, and a contact tracing investigation is ongoing.

"People are staying home less: they are returning to work, are increasing their travels, attending social gatherings, and participating in physical activities," County health officials said. "It is important to understand that the virus has not been eliminated, and there is no vaccine available to prevent people from getting this infection. Therefore, there is still a risk for people to become ill with COVID-19 and pass the illness on to others. Jackson County Public Health expects to see an increase in COVID-19 cases as people resume their daily routines."

KLAMATH:

Klamath County Public Health reported 6 new confirmed cases on Friday, bringing the County total to 85. County officials say that 40 of those cases had recovered and are no longer active.

Despite the recent cases, only seven people have been hospitalized in Klamath County since the pandemic began, with no significant increase over the past two weeks.

“We knew that the reopening of Oregon and warmer weather would present some challenges in reducing transmission,” said Klamath County Health Officer Dr. Wendy Warren. “We each bear responsibility for reducing opportunities for virus spread.”

Warren said that more new cases are to be expected over the next 18 to 24 months, based on a timeline set out by a report from the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) at the University of Minnesota.

As of June 19, 4,406 Klamath County tests had been processed by laboratories.

JOSEPHINE:

Josephine County Public Health last reported a new positive case on Wednesday, bringing the county total to 26 total cases. Of those cases, 22 are considered recovered.

The agency said that it will now provide data weekly on Friday afternoons with an update posted if a new presumptive or confirmed case occurs.

The county marked the first death attributed to the virus in southern Oregon on April 11, an 81-year-old man.

LAKE:

Lake County last reported 6 confirmed cases of coronavirus. 320 people had been tested, with 305 negative results. Nine tests were still pending as of the last update.

CURRY:

Curry County last reported a total of 7 cases, all considered recovered. 460 people have tested negative for the virus.

SISKIYOU:

Siskiyou County officials say that there now 21 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the county, and 11 of those people have since recovered from the illness.

There have been a total of 2,494 negative test results, and 228 tests remain pending.

  • Jackson: 85 (65 recovered)
  • Klamath: 85 (40 recovered)
  • Josephine: 26 (22 recovered, 1 death)
