KERBY, Ore. — Oregon State Police says that a Kerby man died on Monday evening after his vehicle was hit by a dump truck on Redwood Highway.
OSP troopers and emergency crews responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash just north of Kerby shortly before 7 p.m. According to the results of an initial investigation, 60-year-old Billy Thornhill was pulling onto the highway from a driveway — into the path of an oncoming dump truck.
51-year-old Mark Tripp was driving a Freightliner dump truck, towing a 33-foot flatbed trailer. OSP said that he was unable to stop in time, colliding with Thornhill's Dodge Durango.
Thornhill was pronounced dead at the scene. OSP said that Tripp was not injured in the crash.
Troopers were assisted by deputies from the Josephine County Sheriff's Office, Illinois Valley Fire District crews, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
