CANYONVILLE, Ore. — Deputies arrested the suspect in an assault case on Sunday evening after bringing in K9 "Ozzy" to aid in the search, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
Dispatch received a report about the assault, which took place at the Masonic Cemetery in Canyonville, shortly before 4:30 p.m. Deputies got in touch with the victim, who said that she'd been hit in the back of the head by a man she identified as 33-year-old Robert Matthew Frieler.
"The victim also stated Frieler had a knife in his hand at the time of the assault, and believed she could have been stabbed," the Sheriff's Office said.
DCSO said that the victim was bleeding and had "a visible injury" to her head. She was taken to Mercy Medical Center by ambulance.
Deputies went looking for Frieler at a home in the 400-block of Carlisle Court. During a search of the property, K9 Ozzy led the officers to where Frieler was hiding in a shed nearby.
"Frieler gave up when he was made aware the K9 was on scene and had found him," DCSO said. "Frieler was also found to have a knife on his person."
Frieler was arrested and taken to the Douglas County Jail on charges of Assault II and Assault IV.
