GRANTS PASS, Ore. — The Josephine County Sheriff's Office says that it has led 13 raids on illegal marijuana grow operations since the beginning of the year, seizing almost 100,000 plants.
"As our citizens have seen this year, cultivation sites in the marijuana industry are more robust and have grown," the agency said in a statement. "Your Sheriff’s Office is committed to combating the illegal grows within Josephine County."
Since January 1 of this year, the agency said that it has seized 96,673 plants, 46 guns, more than $616,000 in cash, and an assortment of heavy machinery, water pumps, and generators between the various raids.
According to the Sheriff's Office, cash seized through "forfeiture" can only be used for training and equipment, not operations or personnel.
Many of the search warrants were conducted with the aid of other agencies or task forces, including the Josephine Marijuana Enforcement Team (JMET), Rogue Area Drug Enforcement Team (RADE), Oregon State Police, Illegal Marijuana Enforcement Team (IMET), Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), Josephine County Code Enforcement, Oregon State Health Administration, the Josephine County Watermaster and Department of Environmental Quality, Oregon Department of Agriculture, and the Oregon Liquor Control Commission.
