STEAMBOAT, Ore. -- A new wildfire is burning in the Umpqua National Forest east of Steamboat off of Highway 138 near Jack Creek in Douglas County. According to the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest Service that is helping to respond, the fire is up to 800 acres and is growing. Resources from the Medford Bureau of Land Management is also assisting. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The wildfire has closed Highway 138 in both directions between Milepost 40 to 47. There is no estimated time for reopening.
Resources helping to respond include two 20-person hand crews, Medford BLM's Crew 10, a Type 1 helicopter an an air attack aircraft.
Additional resources have been requested. A type 2 Incident Management Team has been ordered.
