As of 9:30 AM 8/25:
Lane has been downgraded to a tropical storm with maximum sustained winds at 60 mph and very slowly moving north at 3 mph. The general motion is expected to continue moving slowly northward this morning, followed by a turn to the west and an increase in speed later today or tonight. Regardless of the exact track of the center of Hurricane Lane, life threatening impacts are likely in some areas as the storm makes its closest approach; impacts from the storm extend far from the eye. Tropical storm conditions are expected across Maui County and Oahu throughout the day.
There are currently Tropical Storm Warnings and Watches posted for Maui, Honolulu and Kauai Counties.
- Extreme rainfall is possible which could lead to major flash flooding, landslides and mudslides, as well as evacuations and rescues.
- Additional total rainfall amounts of 5-10 inches, with amounts between 20-30 inches haven already fallen on the Big Island.
- Extensive wind damage to property with possible power outages.
- High Surf Advisories remain in effect across all southern shores.
