ASHLAND, Ore. — The spreading Hendrix Fire southwest of Ashland prompted evacuation orders and warnings earlier this week, and now has caused forestry officials with the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest to order emergency closures for a number of trails and roads.
Perhaps most notable is the Pacific Crest Trail, which is now closed for 13 miles between Observation Gap (mile 1695) and Grouse Gap (mile 1708.2). For travelers along the trail, the Pacific Crest Trail Association recommends taking the Siskiyou Stage bus between Seiad Valley and Yreka. Hikers will then need to find transportation from Yreka to Ashland. The Trail Association also has an interactive map that displays the closure area.
The Hendrix Fire now covers at least 830 acres and is 10 percent contained.
