HORNBROOK, Ore. -- Jana Toney and the girls with the Shasta View 4H Club handed out about 150 bales of hay during the Klamathon Fire Hay Drive to the people of Hornbrook and Hilt that need them. On July 5th, the Klamathon Fire barreled through Hornbrook, burning more than 38,000 acres and destroying more than 80 buildings, including homes and barns and supplies like hay.

"I lost two barns all of my hay all of my equipment and then I lost a shop, all my fences, corrals, just miles and miles of fences," said land owner Jan Lemos.

Although the fire has been out since the end of July, many people in the area are still struggling to recover, from rebuilding what's lost to just trying to feed their animals. That’s until Ashland’s Jana Toney saddled up.

"I ended up talking to a whole bunch of people in the community. A bunch of folks ended up losing hay, pastured land, and fence line. The need was there because they had been feeding their animals since July 5th which normally they wouldn't. They'd have them out on the pasture," Toney said.

Thanks to the Klamathon Fire Hay Drive Jan Lemos is 40 bales of hay richer. This will get them by and keep her cattle feed for a while.

"It means people care. That somebody is there to help and we're grateful for all of this," said Lemos’ granddaughter, Dani Lemos.

"We're grateful to Jana for putting all of this together and working so hard to get stuff for people. This really does. It means a lot," Jan Lemos added.

So people like Jan can focus on rebuilding their own lives knowing their animals are well fed for now.

Because of Saturday’s rain, the hay drive was light on hay donations. If you would like to make any donations of hay, fence posts or horse tack, you can give Jay at the R ranch a call at (541) 778-2817.

If you would like to make any monetary donations you can call Jana Toney at (541) 621-2462. You can also mail any monetary donations to her PO Box listed below:
