KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — The Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens in Klamath Falls was struck by at least one vandal on Thursday, according to the Klamath County Sheriff's Office (KCSO).
KCSO says that they received a call on Thursday reporting that "burglary, theft, and criminal mischief" had occurred at the cemetary. When deputies arrived, a victim showed them to an area of Eternal Hills that had been entered and 12 different memorial urns and their "containment spaces" that had been damaged.
Valuable items were taken from the memorial sites, and some of the niches were "desecrated," according to KCSO.
Deputies are trying to contact family members related to those interned in the desecrated graves, and KCSO says that they will keep trying until all victims have been notified.
"As attempts are made to identify the despicable person responsible for these acts, any assistance or information would be gladly accepted," said KCSO in a statement.
KCSO asks that members of the public contact them at 3300 Vandenberg Road, Klamath Falls, Oregon, or call 541-883-5130 with information. They also ask that residents of the Basin share the info to get the message out—so they can bring the person or people responsible to justice.
