GRANTS PASS, Ore. -- Grants Pass School District students from kindergarten through fifth grade returned to in-person instruction this week.
Rachel Sorenson, a first-grade teacher at Parkside Elementary, says their focus right now is getting students reacquainted with the safety rules and procedures.
This includes wearing face masks and staying six feet away from each other inside the classroom.
Sorenson says her students couldn’t wait to be back in class.
“There was excitement for the students, but also for the staff, because you know, for us, this is what we feel called to do,” Sorenson said. “We find purpose teaching and being with our students.”
Sorenson says not being able to see her students in-person has been tough, but those challenges turned into teachable moments.
“I think the biggest thing that I have learned and I've taken from this experience is that relationships matter so much,” Sorenson said. “Relationships with teachers, students and parents. So, I've noticed just the strength of those relationships this year and I feel like we’re all working as this team.”
