GRANTS PASS, Ore. --
UPDATE: The man suspected of sexually assaulting a child in Grants Pass has been taken into custody, according to the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety (GPDPS).
Police received several tips about suspect Scott Murphy's possible location, the agency said. Around 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday morning, someone living in the 1000-block of NE Churchill Street reported a "suspicious person" sitting on the front porch of a vacant house.
Officers responded to the area and quickly arrested Murphy. He was taken to the Josephine County Jail, charged with six counts of Sexual Abuse I and four counts of Sodomy I.
"GPDPS would like to thank the public for their awareness and assistance in helping us locate this suspect," the agency said.
Court records demonstrate that Murphy has an extensive criminal history in Southern Oregon, though most of his previous charges have been related to driving with a suspended license or methamphetamine possession.
