GRANTS PASS, Ore. -- The Grants Pass City Council and TMB Racing are beginning exclusive negotiations to sell River Road Reserve property.
It's a 227-acre piece of land. The city purchased it in 2006.
The Travis Boersma-Owned Company plans to build a year-round horse training facility. The company says it will create a positive economic impact. "Ultimately what the public can expect is that the buyer is a very prominent community member that has a lot of sentimental value to this property. We will be doing the right thing and we will take into account what the public is asking for," said Kendra Lellis. She is the Vice President of Grants Pass Downs.
Lellis said the plan would bring jobs to the area, but they would also work to maintain the natural beauty of Grants Pass. One of the main reasons for building the full-time facility is increasing the number of horses and owners they can accommodate. She said during the fall racing season Grants Pass Downs was over capacity and they had to turn owners away.
After negotiations, a final public hearing will be held before approving the sale.
