ASHLAND, Ore.-The manager of the Mount Ashland Ski Area, Hiram Towle, told NewsWatch 12 that he expects over 2,000 people to come through the lodge today. School are closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The means you could see some lines for tickets, rentals, and lifts.
The good news is that there's some fresh snow on the Mountain from the snowfall we got this morning, overnight and within the past weekend.
Towle told us a few ways that you can make sure you still have a perfect day on the slopes, even with the crowds. He says being early is helpful.
Parking can become an issue on busier days. He wants guest to be aware of a free shuttle service that is offered for guests to ensure they won't be fighting for a parking space. A shuttle picks guests up from Ashland Hills Hotel every hour, starting at 7:00 a.m.
Kids are out of school today and that means that ski lessons could fill up. Towle recommends getting in as early as possible if you are signing you child up for lessons. Lessons start at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Another thing is considering where you will get your rental gear, especially if you are planning to get to Mount Ashland a bit later in the day. Running out of rental gear has already been an issue once this season.
"We had one day this year where we had a big, big crowd. Lots of people coming up to learn right around the holidays. We haven't had any problems like that since but we do have some sizes that are popular that will run out."
Towle recommends Blackbird in Medford for getting ski and snowboard rentals if you are nervous about your size running out.
According to the Mount Ashland website they've had 2 inches of snow in the last 24 hours.
There is about 50 inches of snow on the summit.
