KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — One nonprofit in the Klamath Basin has their annual fundraiser coming up, and it falls on November 2 . . . like a sack of potatoes.

Friends of the Children (FOTC) is a national nonprofit that helps pair struggling youth with professional mentors, from kindergarten through high school graduation. Every year the Klamath Basin chapter holds a Potato Sale Fundraiser to help with their efforts "because helping kids is 'no small potatoes.'"

FOTC will be selling 20-pound boxes of premium russet potatoes for $20 each until all boxes are sold. The fundraiser kicks off Saturday, November 2 at Klamath Falls Subaru between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The potatoes are provided by sponsor CAL-ORE Produce.

Potatoes can also be bought at the Friends of the Children Clubhouse throughout the month of November, Monday through Thursday between 9:00 a.m. and noon, or at one of these businesses after November 4: Klamath Falls Subaru and Honda, all three branches of WaFd Bank, and AmeriTitle.

"If unable to stop by one of these locations, Friends of the Children will deliver in and around the Klamath Basin," FOTC said. "Please call 541.273.2022 to order potatoes for your dining or holiday needs!"

FOTC finds children between the ages of 4 and 6 who are from high-poverty schools or are in the foster care system, then pairs them with a mentor who will stay with them for 12 or more years.

"With a Friend walking beside to guide each youth, youth define what their success looks like in our community," FOTC said. "Whether they go to college, learn a trade, enlist in the military, or pursue entrepreneurism, youth have the choices and freedom to build a life they can be proud of."
