MEDFORD, Ore.-For some people, Christmas can be a difficult time of year.
This is the second year that Living Waters Church has hosted a free breakfast on Chritmas morning for anyone who needs it.
Not only we're volunteers making and serving the food, but also handing out donations of things like socks, hats, and gloves.
NewsWatch 12 talked with volunteers here that told that they love giving back to the community.
One even told us that he knows what it feels like to wake up on the cold streets and not have a hot meal.
"I really want to give back with my heart from where I came from from being homeless and living on the streets," says Jesse Monague after helping cook breakfast.
Jesse wants to make a difference in someones life the same way people did for him when he was homeless.
"Every year i used to get so depressed, it was a time when I shut down so I just wanted to turn around and give back to them so they can feel like their wanted," says Jesse.
He's not the only volunteer there that wanted to give back after they help they've recieved.
"I just want to give back to the people who are still stuck in the struggle where I came from," says Cameron King.
For cameron, volunteering is a way to connect with his community
"Over these past few weeks I got to personally meet almost every single person in this building," he says.
We asked a third volunteer why she's here this morning to serve the homeless on christmas day.
Emily Perkins says that she has actaully gotten more out of volunteering her time than she felt like she has given.
She was grateful for the way working with the homless community has impacted her life.
"Thank you for the many ways that they've encouraged me, made me feel loved, and made me feel valued when I really was struggling with that inside myself," she says.
Both her and Jesse agreed that they wouldn't spend their Chirstmas any other way.
"I wanted to make sure that they still continued to get love, even on Christmas morning. I have nothing better to do then be right here for them," says Jesse.
He hopes that the tradion of free breakfast on Chrismas morning is one that continues for a long time.
