MEDFORD, Ore. -- For the first time this year, Medford Police responded to a heroin overdose at Hawthorne Park.
Several people jumped into action to help the man who collapsed.
Jesse Botens performed CPR until police arrived.
"He was blue and purple, a woman had already begun calling 911, I checked him for a breath and pulse and began CPR," Botens said.
Police say the man was walking in the park with another man when he collapsed.
They gave him narcan when they arrived, and he was semi-conscious when he was taken to the hospital.
Police say they arrested the man he was with for possession of heroin.
Botens said he hopes a lesson is learned.
"If anything can be taken away from this it's love yourself, don't do that to your body or your soul," Botens said.
