MEDFORD, Or-- An old firehouse in a Medford neighborhood will have a different use soon.
The city approved a conditional use permit for the firehouse to be used as a community center. Now, youth 71Five Ministries plans to purchase the property and fix it up.
They want to give it the look of a fire station from the early 1900s. Youth 71Five Ministries runs different programs for kids that have one common goal: to mentor kids.
The ministry coordinator says anyone will be welcome to use the services in the building, free of charge, once they're up and running.
Matt Sweeney the Ministry Coordinator for Youth 71Five Ministries says, "we will be actually, we'll have people out in the neighborhoods issuing invitations and everybody will be welcome to come."
Sweeney says that renovations should be finished in anywhere from nine months to a year. He says the location of the firehouse is perfect because its within walking distance of three different schools.
