CENTRAL POINT, Ore. — Firefighters and law enforcement officers responded to a new wildfire on Wednesday afternoon along Table Rock Road between Medford and Central Point.
Medford Police said that this fire moved rapidly, having started near the 3400-block of Table Rock just north of where it crosses I-5. It was reportedly moving north along the Bear Creek Greenway — threatening Costco and other businesses and structures.
"Please evacuate the area," MPD said at the time.
Central Point Police now says that all of Central Point is at a Level 2 "Be Set" evacuation warning.
"The fires in our region are constantly evolving, we will keep you updated as much as possible," the agency said.
The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) is calling this the "Greenway MM 24 Fire," placing it two miles from the Jackson County Expo. One air tanker, three helicopters, and ground support all responded to the scene.
I-5 is now open southbound through Central Point. Northbound traffic is still being detoured to Highway 99, ODOT said.
"Expect delays northbound while fire crews mop-up Bear Creek Greenway area fire," the agency continued.
This is a developing story and will be updated with more details as they emerge.
