CHRISTMAS VALLEY, Ore. — Fire crews are responding to a new wildfire in Lake County, this one roughly east Christmas Valley.
The South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership (SCOFMP) said that the Dragon Rock Fire is about four miles west of where Highway 395 and Christmas Valley Wagontire Road meet. It is currently estimated at more than 100 acres.
"Aerial resources are on scene with ground resources en route," SCOFMP said. "Firefighter and public safety are the top priority. Please avoid the area."
While the cause of this fire has not been confirmed, fire officials reported earlier in the day that thunderstorms over Monday had produced about 140 lightning strikes between Klamath and Lake counties, resulting in at least a dozen reported fires. At that time, the largest was slightly over 10 acres.
Firefighters have been wrapping up work on the Ben Young Fire near Paisley over the past week, gradually building containment on the 12,49-acre blaze.
This is a developing story and will be updated with more details as they emerge.
