One person is dead after a fiery vehicle crash in Gold Hill soon after midnight this morning.

The Rogue River Fire Department responded to the 3700 block of Rogue River Highway, where they found a vehicle in flames after having slid down an embankment.

Sequoia Worthington was driving down Rogue River Highway with her friend when she saw fire off the side of the road.

“Before I called 911, me and my friend both slid down the embankment to see what we could do. But once we got to the truck, the flames grew bigger and sparks started flying,” Worthington said.

She said she attempted to put out the fire with creek water before fire crews arrived, but then car parts started flying into the air.

"There's one that just barely missed my head. Theres some that hit my leg but minor injuries," says Worthington.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1987 Toyota pickup truck failed to negotiate a curve, went off the road, and came to rest in Birdseye Creek.

This article will be updated with the name of the deceased male after next of kin has been notified.
