WHITE CITY, Ore. — Oregon State Police confirmed on Thursday that a local woman died in a two-vehicle crash along Highway 140 the day before.
The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) sent out an alert on Wednesday afternoon that Highway 140 was closed just east of White City due to a serious two-vehicle crash. The agency said at the time that this was a head-on collision.
Crews closed the highway in both directions, detouring traffic using Antelope Road and Lakeview Drive.
"Expect lengthy closure for OSP investigation," ODOT said on Wednesday.
Following the investigation, Oregon State Police confirmed that one person had died in the crash just after 4 p.m. The agency said that 21-year-old Daniel Mejia of White City had been driving a Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on the highway when he crossed into the westbound lane — hitting a Chevrolet Lumina driven by 64-year-old Sheila Johnson of Eagle Point head-on.
OSP said that Johnson sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Highway 130 remained closed for roughly three hours after the crash. In addition to OSP, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Mercy Flights, and Jackson County Fire District 3 were all on the scene.
