EAGLE POINT, Ore--- The COVID-19 pandemic may have caused many public services and events to be canceled, but it won't stop the local community from honoring veterans.

That is the message being sent by the Grants Pass Active  Club and the Eagle Point National Cemetery. The two organizations will hold Memorial Day ceremonies on Memorial Day, which will be live-streamed on social media platforms.

"While we can't all be together physically, I think this is the best thing that we can do," said Grants Pass Active Club employee Charlie Simons. "Connect to the Facebook page, watch it live. If you can, if you live in Grants Pass you can probably see the F-15s from your house."

Simons is referring to the F-15 flyover that will travel over Grants Pass around 12:10 p.m. on Memorial Day. The flyover will conclude the ceremony that starts at noon. The ceremony can be live-streamed at Boatnik's Facebook page.

Boatnik was canceled because of the COVID-19 crisis, but Grants Pass Active Club did not feel like it could cancel the annual Memorial Day Ceremony. It will happen on the 7th street bridge. You should keep in mind that it is not a public gathering. You should not crowd the bridge. Also, Riverside Park will be closed from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Memorial Day.

Eagle Point National Cemetery will also hold a ceremony at the cemetery. It will be at 3 p.m. During the ceremony, there will be a one minute moment of silence for reflection.

The ceremony is not public. However, the cemetery will be open from dawn to dusk for visitation. Eagle Point National Cemetery says that mass flag placements will not be coordinated or approved by the NCA; however, individuals may choose to place their own flags consistent with NCA policy.

"We just want families to know that they can come on out and visit and do as much as they can. Even though we are not having that flag placement," said Eagle Point National Cemetery acting director Wayne Goddard.

If you want to honor a veteran from your family, you can leave a written tribute at https://www.vlm.cem.va.gov/
