WILDERVILLE, Ore. — The Josephine County Sheriff's Office confirms that one person is dead after a crash just after midnight on Wednesday along Limpy Creek Road.
Deputies, firefighters from Rural Metro Fire, and AMR crews were dispatched to reports of a crashed vehicle on fire in the 300-block of Limpy Creek Road at roughly 12:11 a.m.
At the scene, first responders found an SUV that had crashed into a tree and caught fire. One person was discovered dead in the driver seat. The Sheriff's Office said that they have not yet been identified.
Rural Metro Fire said that it appeared the vehicle left the roadway "at a high rate of speed," striking trees before bursting into flames. While a passerby saw the fire and called 911, Rural Metro said that the fire may have been burning for some time.
The body was discovered after fire crews knocked down the flames. Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading too far into the surrounding brush and trees.
The crash remains under investigation, with more details to be released later. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 541-474-5123.
