Donate gifts for seniors through ACCESS 'Senior Shoebox' program

ACCESS is looking to collect hundreds of shoe box full of gifts for seniors this Christmas.

MEDFORD, Ore.-- Opening a gift on Christmas morning brings joy to children of all ages.

ACCESS is hoping to spread that joy to seniors living in Jackson County.

“There is a something at the holidays where you want to be able to share the joy and cheer of the holidays, we want to make sure our seniors are taken care of. So, it’s such a feel-good program that helps so many people over the holiday period," said Kellie Battaglia, ACCESS Development Director.

ACCESS is collecting shoe-boxes full of gifts. It's collected tens of thousands of shoe-boxes in the 30 years it's been running the program.

It encourages people to fill the boxes with things like scarves, hats, and puzzles.

Volunteers will deliver the boxes to seniors throughout Jackson County.

“Our service area is Jackson County, but we make sure that these shoe boxes get to all areas, so the most rural areas, Prospect, and Shady Cove, and Butte Falls," said Battaglia. "We have an army of volunteers that are out delivering shoe boxes right before Christmas to seniors in need throughout Jackson County.”

ACCESS is looking to collect 2,000 boxes this year.

The box and the lid should be wrapped separately so ACCESS can still open the box.

There's a wish list of gifts suggested by the seniors.

"We had one of our recipients, she said that it was the best gift she had received in her 92 years, and that is so touching. Something so small with basic needs can be so meaningful to those that are receiving it," Battaglia said.

Donations are accepted until December 10.

You can drop them off at ACCESS, 3630 Aviation Way, Medford. It's open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
