INITIAL REPORT: One man is dead following a shooting in Central Point on Thursday afternoon, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office has confirmed.

Public inormation officer Mike Moran said that units responded shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Thursday when a neighbor reported hearing a gunshot coming from a house in the 6600-block of Ponderosa Street between Central Point and White City, near the intersection with W Gregory Road.

Deputies arrived at the scene to find a man dead outside of the house, the Sheriff's Office said.

Everyone involved in the shooting has since been accounted for, officers on the scene told NewsWatch 12. The Major Assault and Death Investigation Unit (MADIU) is now on the scene and will be leading the investigation.

"The scene is contained and there is no continuing threat to the safety of the public," the Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

This is a developing story and NewsWatch 12 will update the article with more details as they emerge.
