MEDFORD, Ore. --The flu season has been deadly all over the country -- even in Oregon. Two children and an elderly person have died in the area.

Cases of the flu have increased so much in the last few weeks that emergency rooms are getting overcrowded. Staff have seen a 20 percent overall general increase in people who are using the ER and 16-percent increase in patients who have been admitted overnight.

the public health director in Clark County, Washington says cases started to spike around mid-December.
He says people who are confused or dazed or who experience severe chest pains should consider going for emergency treatment.

But if you simply have a fever or cough-medical experts are asking you to see your regular doctor instead.
They say every year in the U.S. there are several thousand to 50-thousand deaths from the flu.

Both children who died from the flu in Oregon were younger than 10 years old.
