CURRY COUNTY, Ore.--- On Tuesday June 15, 2021 will be the 5th annual Fire Prevention and Public Awareness Meeting. This annual meeting was called into place by Curry Commissioner, Court Boice.

“Like 2017, 2018, last year and many seasons since the 1987 Silver Complex – we potentially have another very volatile Fire Year coming," Commissioner Boice said.

Boice went on to say “In my view, not much has changed from recent Fire Seasons and with so much Burned Timber from the 6 previous 30-year catastrophic Fires; certainly, fuels are worse. Yes, we are predicting another high-risk level this summer. As of this writing – it is drier than normal, so it’s critical that we understand and call everyone to focus on Public Safety”. He further mentioned, “We also badly need more volunteers and help for our 14 Curry County Volunteer Fire Departments”.

Court has asked, Rogue River – Siskiyou National Forest Supervisor Merv George, Coos-Curry Forest Protective Association Director Mike Robison, Gold Beach City Fire Chief Tyson Krieger, Gold Beach USFS Ranger District Wade Mcmaster, and Curry County Fire Chief Jim Watson to all help facilitate this meeting.

The meeting is open to and for the public. All interested are encouraged to attend. It will take place at the Curry Event Center – 29392 Ellensburg Avenue Gold Beach from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
