MEDFORD, Ore. — A company that owns and operates Panera Bread locations in multiple U.S. states says it plans to build one in Medford, with construction expected to begin next year.
Manna Development Group and KOGAP Enterprises, Inc. said in a joint statement that they have finalized an agreement to open the chain's first southern Oregon location at Stewart Meadows Village, the recent site of a new "urban luxury" apartment complex in southwest Medford.
“Manna Development is very excited to come to Medford. We have been working awhile to find the right location at the right time, and we look forward to serving the great people of Medford. Not only are we excited about bringing 60 new jobs to the area, but baking bread and serving soups, salads, sandwiches and more while taking care of our amazing guests,” said Patrick Rodgers, Managing Partner of Manna Development Group.
The companies said that Stewart Meadows Village will eventually have a commercial retail center at the south corner of Highway 99 and Garfield Street, with construction set to begin at the end of 2021. Panera is slated to be the first building in the development. The planned location will have indoor and outdoor dining, as well as a drive-thru.
“The Rogue Valley is increasingly becoming a top lifestyle destination. The Residences at Stewart Meadows Village has been a huge success, and we hope to carry this momentum into our next commercial project,” said Christian Istel, KOGAP’s Chief Operating Officer. “We’re very excited – Panera Bread has been on Southern Oregon’s wish list for years.”
KOGAP built the Providence medical office building at Stewart Meadows, followed by the luxury apartments. Manna is headquartered in Encinitas, California, and owns 135 Panera Bread locations in California, Indiana, Michigan, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado. Kistler Small White, an Ashland-based architecture firm, will be the lead architect on the Medford project.
A spokesperson for the City of Medford said that they have not yet received any building submissions for the planned Panera location.
