GOLD HILL, Ore.-- Forget the champagne.
Dozens of locals decided to ring in the New Year with a splash of cold water.

It's part of an annual polar plunge.
About 50 people jumped in the Rogue River.
They're part of a local karate community that's been celebrating New Year’s this way since 1983.
Chip Wright says, "Just kind of renew our commitment to exercise, kind of bring in the new year in a different way."
This year was chilly but nothing like what they dealt with during our historic winter last year.
Chip Wright says, "It was cold but last year had a lot of snow so it was colder, still cold this year, we went in about 4 times."
