CHILOQUIN, Ore. — A California man died in a single-vehicle crash along Highway 97 north of Chiloquin in the early hours of Thursday morning, according to Oregon State Police.
Troopers and emergency crews responded to the crash shortly after 2:30 a.m., arriving to an area a few miles north of Kirk Road at milepost 235.
An investigation of the scene found that 38-year-old Benjamina Martinez-Antibanez of Porterville, California, was driving a black Toyota Sienna southbound when she left the roadway, causing the car to roll.
Passenger 39-year-old Tomas Abrajandelacruz — also of Porterville — sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. OSP said that he was not wearing a seat belt at the tie of the crash.
Martinez-Antibanez and five other juvenile passengers "did not sustain life-threatening injuries," according to OSP, though the agency did not specify if they were harmed in the crash.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Chiloquin Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
