ATLANTA, Georgia. -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is issuing new guidelines for mass gatherings and community events in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The CDC is recommending groups be no larger than 50 people.
A statement issued on the CDC website says "for the next 8 weeks organizers (whether groups or individuals) cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the United States". The CDC says this includes festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, and weddings.

The CDC says this guidance does not apply to schools, institutes of higher learning, or businesses.
While the CDC has issued this guidance, it is not federally mandated. Currently in Oregon, gatherings of more than 250 people are prohibited.
