BROOKINGS, Ore. — Oregon State Police says that a 28-year-old Brookings woman died after being struck by a car along Highway 101 on Thursday evening.
State troopers and emergency crews responded to Highway 101 just south of Brookings around 5:30 p.m. for reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian.
An initial investigation found that 44-year-old Kristen Batey was heading northbound in a Dodge car when she struck 28-year-old Makenzie Long, who was in the northbound lane.
Long was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
OSP says that it was assisted at the scene by the Harbor Fire Department, Cal-Ore Ambulance, Brookings Police, the Curry County Sheriff's Office, and ODOT.
