GRANTS PASS, Ore.,--Jack Smith, the owner of Blind George's New Stand, a shop in downtown Grants Pass, says he makes significantly more sales during the Boatnik Saturday than any other day of the year.
"We'll probably do 3 or 4 times the amount that we would on a regular Saturday. Maybe even 5 times depending on the weather if it holds," says Smith.
Smith has been prepping his store all week, making sure they'll have enough supplies and staff for Saturday. He's owned the shop through more than 20 years of Boatnik and says it's created an economic boom for Grants pass.
Restaurants like the Taprock Grill are also gearing up for a busy weekend. The owner says they've ordered more food than usual and are having a fully staffed restaurant for the five days of Boatnik. They've also hired a security company to handle parking passes and make sure guests aren't parked for more than two hours. With their location being right across from the Boatnik Festival, they say that this weekend will be one of their biggest money makers of the year.
