YREKA, Calif. — One of the first major wildfires in the region for the 2020 Fire Season was caused by someone driving on a flat tire, fire investigators have determined.
The Badger Fire burned 557 acres on Badger Mountain Road and Hawkinsville Humbug Road within sight of Yreka, prompting evacuation orders and warnings. It broke out on July 18 and Cal Fire crews had it fully contained by July 28.
Cal Fire says motorists are responsible for many of the wildfires started along California roadways. They’re reminding individuals it’s important to keep up with proper vehicle use and maintenance to help prevent wildfires.
