Brookings, Ore. — The City of Brookings says that they have fixed a mechanical failure at the water treatment plant.
The mechanical failure caused drinking water to not be properly disinfected on April 7th and 8th.
"We are required to disinfect drinking water taken from the Chetco River and for a period of 13 hours we did not provide enough treatment time because of a mechanical failure and our inability to access the disinfection unit due to flooding," said City Manager Janell Howard.
Howard went on to say that it was not an emergency situation. If it had been, "the public would have been notified within 24 hours."
People who use city water are not asked to boil water or take any other actions.
