WONDER, Ore-- On Saturday, Rural Metro Fire reported that an ash pile from an open burn, from more than a week ago, was re-awakened this afternoon in the 2000 block of Waters Creek Road.
According to RMF, units from their own station, Grants Pass Fire Rescue and the Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest District quickly made it to the scene, keeping the fire to 1/100th acre.
RMF says that this was the second burn pile to escape today, with an earlier fire staring on Jump Off Joe Creek Road. That fire was contained at 1/10th acre.
Fire officials are asking that everyone be mindful of the very dry conditions that southern Oregon is experiencing, and to use extreme caution with any activity that can contribute to starting a fire.
Rural Metro Fire is also asking for anyone with old piles, to please check them for residual heat to avoid any more escaped burns.
