PORTLAND, Ore. — In spite of COVID-19, "American Idol" is moving forward with the search for a new superstar, but this time it will be done virtually.
Friday, August 14 marks the beginning of virtual auditions for contenders from the state of Oregon, using "custom built Zoom technology" to facilitate the process.

"'Idol Across America' remote auditions will take place across all 50 states plus Washington, D.C., for the first time since the show’s inception, making auditions easier than ever," representatives said in a statement. "Idol hopefuls will have the chance to audition face-to-face in front of 'American Idol' producers as the 'Idol Across America' virtual tour stops in their home state."
For California, try-outs begin on September 5.
