GRANTS PASS, Ore. -- The Air Stagnation Advisory has been extended until 4 p.m., tomorrow, according to the National Weather Service. This means drivers can still expect to see hazy skies on their way to work.

There's barely any wind in the Rogue Valley and that's what's causing the Air Stagnation Advisory. A big section of air is stuck in the valley and it's not moving. This can lead to bad air quality. Many areas are affected by the advisory, including Ashland, Grants Pass, Klamath Falls and Medford.

Parents said they are hoping the advisory will not be extended again.

"One of my daughters was just diagnosed with asthma," said Valina Rivera. "The advisory creates more boundaries where she has to stay inside on days that are more foggy with stagnant air. She coughs a lot and it hurts her chest."

Other people said the air quality impacts the way they get around town. Jacob Gonzalez stopped riding his motorcycle after he learned about the Air Stagnation Advisory.

"It's going to feel the world's difference when I actually get to breathe," said Gonzalez. "That's what I'm looking forward to -- actually getting to ride my motorcycle."

Staying safe during the Air Stagnation Advisory

People with respiratory diseases, such as COPD or asthma, can get flare ups during Air Stagnation Advisories, said Grants Pass Clinic Family Medicine Doctor Steve Lali.

The best way for this group of people to be safe is to stay inside, Lali said. This group can also wear N-95 masks to help prevent flare ups.

Grants Pass Clinic doctors said lots of patients have come in for flare ups without realizing it might have been caused by the Air Stagnation Advisory.

"They don't even know," said Lali. "They just primarily come in with their symptoms -- that they can't breathe, they're very short of breath or they're coughing."

In order to prevent the air quality from getting worse, the National Weather Service said people in the affected areas should try to not burn anything during the advisory. This means staying away from outdoor burning and limiting residential wood burning.
