Accidental gun discharge at Henley High School sends one student to hospital

The student was treated at the hospital after being shot in the hand

CLARIFICATION TO ORIGINAL POST: The students went home to retrieve the guns and went shooting legally. Both students later returned to school as one of them needed to get their car from the parking lot. School officials say that the gun discharged, and struck one student in the hand as they were exchanging it between cars.

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore -- An accidental gun discharge on a high school campus Thursday night, sent one student to the hospital according to school officials. 

Klamath County Sheriff Deputies responded to a call about a negligent discharge of a firearm in the parking lot of Henley High School around 6:30 p.m. 

Officials say that the two students went home after school to retrieve the guns to go shooting legally and recreationally elsewhere. Both students later returned to school as one of them needed to get their car from the parking lot. School officials say that the gun discharged, and struck one student in the hand as they were exchanging it between cars.  

The student was taken to Sky Lakes for medical treatment. Officials add that there was no threats to anyone or to school property during the incident.
