GRANTS PASS, Ore. — The Josephine County Sheriff's Office on Monday identified the man killed while riding a scooter across Demaray Drive southwest of Grants Pass over the weekend.
According to the agency, deputies responded to the 3500-block of Demaray Drive just before 8 a.m. on Saturday, after reports of the crash. Troopers from Oregon State Police also responded to the area.
After investigating the scene, deputies determined that 72-year-old Kenneth Law was riding a 50cc scooter when he tried to cross Demaray Drive, apparently to reach a convenience store across the street. In the heavy morning fog, the driver of a 10-yard dump truck slammed into Law as he crossed the road.
Despite the best efforts of emergency crews, Law died at the scene.
The Sheriff's Office said that the dump truck driver has been cooperating with investigators, and criminal charges are not expected to come from the case.
