LOS ANGELES (AP) - More than 700,000 immigrants are still waiting for their U.S Citizenship application. Some places are still waiting after two years. Normally applying to become a citizen takes six months.
This wait started after President Donald Trump took office. Some are asking if the delays are in place to keep anti-Trump voters from voting in the elections.
The number of immigrants wanting to become citizens skyrocketed in the last two years, because Trump said he was cracking down on immigration. At first, the federal government kept up with the applications, but then the wait grew.
Trump on Thursday tweeted that Central American migrants in a U.S.-bound caravan should return to home and apply for American citizenship if they wish.
