GRANTS PASS, Ore. — One man is in the hospital and one woman under arrest after a stabbing in Grants Pass early this morning. The attack happened in the 1800-block of NW 6th Street, according to the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety (GPDPS).

Police responded to the scene just after 2:00 a.m., and found 40-year-old Brian Moore suffering from a 'substantial' stab wound on his right leg. Officers and fire fighters immediately performed triage until an ambulance could arrive. Moore was brought to Three Rivers Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect, 37-year-old Navira Smith, was later located breaking the windows of nearby businesses, according to GPDPS. When officers confronted her, Smith resisted arrest and refused to cooperate. The officers finally resorted to using a Taser, bringing Smith down and safely taking her into custody. No one was injured in the encounter, according to GPDPS.

Smith has been lodged at the Josephine County Jail on charges of Assault II and Unlawful Use of a Weapon, but authorities expect to bring more charges against her.

Moore is expected to survive his injury—however, the last report on his status saw him in surgery.

GPDPS said that they are still investigating the incident and would like any witnesses or parties with more information to contact Detective Ryan Brown at 541-450-6345.
