Pet of the Week: Benny and Susie

Please help find Benny and Susie their forever homes.

Posted: Jun 10, 2021 12:54 PM

Let’s meet our Pet of the Week for the second week of June. We have a very playful Pittie mix and a girl who is more than deserving of a safe place to call her own.

First up – meet Benny! He is a 4-year-old Pitbull Lab mix who is very sweet and playful. Benny can be a bit shy at first but warms up rather quickly, especially when you offer him a treat or a snack. When he first came to the shelter, he wasn't quite sure about all of it; but he soon figured out that going to play groups meant he got to run wild with his pals! After a while, he even learned that the big, scary thing in front of someone's face was really just a camera. So, when you can get him to sit still, he's really just a photogenic, beautiful, big guy. Benny loves to play with other dogs. In fact he loves it so much, he'll let you know out loud when he's having a good time. Benny is the best of both worlds - high energy but also knows how to just hang out. You're sure to have a lot of fun in your future, with Benny by your side. If you would like to meet him, please set up an appointment at the Jackson County Animal Shelter. Bring your family, and any other furkids you may have, so when he does leave - he knows it's for good. The adoption fee for Benny is $150, plus an additional $25 for an annual dog license if you live in Jackson County.

Next up - meet Susie! If you are someone with a big heart who loves a feline-friend that can be a bit quirky and different, well then Susie's your gal! She's had a pretty tough life so far. Susie was surrendered to the shelter because she didn't get along with the other cats at home, but that could be simply because of fear and a lack of circumstances that allowed her to adjust to new surroundings. After all, she only has one eye - and we don't know how that happened. She also has some kind of injury that caused her tail to have a kink in it, so she may be a little bit hesitant towards other animals and unfamiliar circumstances. Susie will likely thrive in a peaceful environment where she is the only cat. Often aggressive behaviors towards other animals are due to fear, and since we have little information about her background, we want her to have the best chance at a peaceful, loving and safe new life. If your heart is big enough to help her turn the page and write up an entirely new chapter in her life, please call the Jackson County Animal Shelter to make an appointment and meet her. Even better news, if your budget is a little tight this month, you'll be happy to know that Susie's adoption fee has been pre-paid by one of the shelter's generous donors! So, Susie is essentially free to a good home - as long as it is the absolute right home for her.
Just a reminder that it’s kitten season! So, if you're looking for a little fluffball to call your own, please check out the ones who are already at the shelter. Of course, these precious little loves can tend to go fast - but don't worry! There are plenty of more kittens to come this season. If forever maybe isn’t for you, but you're interested in fostering kittens for a short time, please call Friends of the Animal Shelter for more information at 541-774-6651 or visit their Facebook page. Of course, caring for these little ones does come at a cost, and the shelter is in desperate need of some kitty food. If you have some laying around - or could spare a bag - both the shelter, and these scruff balls, would be forever grateful.

For those of you who are already pet owners and need to get your pet caught up on some shots, don’t forget the low-cost shot clinic coming up on June 19th. Please call the Jackson County Animal Shelter to make an appointment ahead of time at 541-774-6654. For more information, please visit fotas.org.

For more information about our Pets of the Week, or to meet Benny and Susie, please call the Jackson County Animal Shelter at 541-774-6654. The shelter is located at 5595 S. Pacific Highway in Phoenix. Their hours are Tuesday - Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday - Sunday from noon to 4:00 p.m.
