Community members supporting the Coats For Kids Campaign

MEDFORD, Ore. -- Newswatch 12's Coats For Kids Campaign has been going on for 31 years with the support of community members who make donations.

The Coats For Kids goal in 2021 is 5,000 warm winter coats with an overall monetary goal of $125,000.

Anne-Marie Durham runs her real estate business in the Hampton Place subdivision. She reached out to Newswatch 12 via email to share that there are children coming into Medford that could benefit from new coats.

"If you've ever seen a smile on a kid's face, you know when they get a gift or something like that, a new jacket a new pair of tennis runners, that's all they need to make them feel just as important as the other kid."

Durham has been able to donate to Coats For Kids in the past and plans to continue contributing.

She also tells Newswatch 12 that she likes to give back in small ways throughout the year, whether it's paying for someone's food ahead of her in line at a drive-through, or storing someone's grocery cart for them while at the store.

Reflecting on the positive feedback she receives in those moments, she said she looks forward to the day when people are not surprised by kind acts and just pays it forward instead.

Instead of collecting coats, NewsWatch 12 is raising money to buy brand new coats for children in our community. Coats will then be distributed through our partners in Klamath County (Integral Youth Services and Klamath Falls Gospel Mission), Josephine County (Boys & Girls Clubs), and Jackson County (the Salvation Army).
