MEDFORD, Ore. — 1 in 88 children has autism, according to the latest numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That’s why some Zumba instructors are dancing to raise awareness.
Inspire Studio and “Zumba D’ Carlos” are teaming up to hold a Zumbathon to raise autism awareness and funds. The event will feature a speaker and three hours of Zumba. Nearly 20 Zumba instructors will take part in the fundraiser coming from across the West Coast.
“It’s just giving to our community because we deserve to be better and we need to stand up for everybody, help everybody, help each other,” says instructor Nicole Shaw.
The Zumbathon fundraiser for “autism awareness” is happening at Hoover Elementary School in Medford this Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. A 10-dollar donation allows one admission. All proceeds will go to ‘The Swindell Resource Center’ at Providence Medford Medical Center.
