YREKA, Calif. — Two murders happening within months of each other, both by the Yreka Creek, rocked the city’s investigators last year. They normally work one murder every four years. Police now believe they are halfway there to solving both murders.
Police say their suspect, Elias Bullington, was already in custody. The district attorney says police put Bullington behind bars last October for assault and driving under the influence of alcohol.
The D.A. believes Bullington assaulted a woman with a deadly weapon and the very next day caused another injury to the same woman while driving under the influence.
Since the murder in July of last year, two investigators have been chasing leads full-time.
“This death was a very violent death and you know with a suspect in custody we’re at least able to give closure to the victim’s family, and I hope they can move on,” said Yreka Police Chief Brian Bowles.
Another murder in the same area is still under investigation. The crime scene was buried behind blackberry bushes last year. Since then, it’s been cleared so police patrols have a wide open view of what’s happening by the creek.
The blackberry project is set to continue for another year…it’s just another safety measure now knowing at least one suspect is behind bars.
